To use our modem line test facilty please folow the following steps
Windows 98
Step 1.
Find out what com port your modem is installed on.
Go Start => Settings => Control Panel
Double click on modems
Select Diagnostics at the top
Take note of where your modem is installed.
Something like "Com 2 Standard 56K modem"
Step 2.
Click on Start Goto "programs" goto "Accessories" Goto
"Communications" Click on to "Hyper Terminal"
Step 2b.
If HyperTerminal is not there Go Start => Settings => Control Panel
Click on "add remoive programs"
Select the "Windows Setup " Tab at the top of the window
Click on communications ONCE
Then select Details down the bottom
Scroll down and click on hyperterminal
Select OK
Close the control panel
Step 2c.
Go back to Step 2
Step 3.
Double Click onto hypertrm or hypertrm.exe
In the Connection Description Box type MALTS
Select OK
In the Phone number type 1234
Click on the down arrow where your modem is Select the port your modem is
on ie: Com 2
Select OK
In your Com 2 properties set the "Bits per second figure to 115200
Select OK
You should have a blank white screen in front of you
Step 4.
Now select Transfer from the menu bar at the top
Select Capture Text
In the field provided Type c:\malts.txt
Select OK
Step 5.
type "at" Hit ENTER
You should see "ok" appear after you hit enter
Type "atz" Hit Enter
you should see ok again
Type atdt 46814900 Hit ENTER
You should see dialing 46814900
You will then see
"Welcome to HaleNET's Modem Testing Facility
Press to continue"
You will then be prompted by
"Please wait, your line is being tested."
Then you will see
"The following display formats are available.
Color (ANSI BBS)
VT-100 (IBM monochrome)
Text (7 bit ascii, displays on anything)
(C)olor, (V)T-100, or (T)ext? c"
Type C then hit ENTER
The test results will then be displayed on your screen.
Then the connection will be Disconnected
Close the Hyperterminal window. When it askes do you want to disconnect
Select YES and when it asks if you want to save the connection Select YES
If you want to repeat the Test
Go back to step 1 then select the MALTS icon and follow from step 5 onwards
If you then send admin@halenet.com.au a message and attach
c:\malts.txt to it I will have a look at it for you and advise
